About Me

My name is Josiah Islas, and I recently relocated to Henderson, NV from the midwest. My path into IT started far from a keyboard, though — I got my start palletizing fruit in a California packing house and worked my way up through warehouse operations over the following decade-plus, eventually spending over ten years as a forklift driver.

My Journey into IT

After a decade-plus in warehouse work, I wanted something more — a career with real room to grow, not just another job. IT had intrigued me since I was a kid with access to a computer; I loved picking up new skills just for the sake of it. As I took on more responsibility in the workforce, I kept seeing how essential IT was to every company I worked for, and that's what pushed me to make the switch. So I went back to school while working full-time to turn that interest into a career.

I'm now finishing my A.A.S. in IT/Web Development, building skills in Windows OS, networking, PHP, MySQL, and Python along the way.

What I'm Looking For

I'm targeting IT/Desktop Support roles — the kind of work where there's always a new problem to figure out and someone on the other end who needs help. If I'm dreaming big, landing a support role with an organization like the Las Vegas Raiders would be the goal — combining IT with my love of sports and live entertainment.

Outside of Work

When I'm not at a keyboard, I'm into arts and entertainment — new movies, gaming, live music, and being part of the communities around them. I'm also hands-on by nature: DIY mechanic work, tinkering with hardware, and getting outdoors whenever I can.
